The turbocharger installed on an excavator engine is an exhaustdriven air compression unit. Its core operating principle uses exhaust gas energy to compress incoming air, making diesel fuel burn more thoroughly, which significantly increases power output, reduces fuel waste and minimizes black smoke emissions.

Core Functions

Power BoostFor engines with identical cylinder displacement, turbocharging increases power by 30%–50% with a sharp torque rise, delivering stronger performance in heavyload and climbing scenarios.

Fuel Economy & Emission ReductionAdequate intake air enables complete fuel combustion, lowering fuel consumption by around 5% and decreasing black smoke, carbon monoxide and HC emission levels.

LowSpeed Torque UpgradeHigher lowrpm torque provides greater force for excavator heavyload startup and digging work.

Basic Structure (Three Essential Components)

Turbine End (Exhaust Side)Connected to the exhaust manifold, 600–900 ℃ hightemperature exhaust gas impacts the turbine impeller, spinning the central shaft at 100,000–200,000 rpm.

Compressor End (Intake Side)Coaxially powered, the compressor wheel compresses air purified by the air filter and feeds pressurized air into engine cylinders.

Central Hub (Bearing & Lubrication Assembly)Equipped with floating bearings and engineoil coolinglubrication passages, it resists high heat and ultrahigh rotational velocity. Engine oil dissipates heat to prevent bearing seizure.

Working Principle (4Stage Operating Process)

Exhaust Gas Energy InputHot highpressure exhaust enters the turbine housing and spins the turbine wheel rapidly.

Synchronous Coaxial RotationThe turbine shaft turns the compressor impeller at matching ultrahigh speeds.

Intake Compression PhaseThe compressor draws filtered fresh air and compresses it to 0.1–0.2 MPa with temperature elevation.

Intercooling StepWarm compressed air is cooled by the intercooler to raise air density before entering cylinders, supporting more fuel injection and higher power generation.
