• As the primary switch and flow‑distribution manifold of an excavator’s hydraulic system, the main control valve (main valve / multi‑way valve) centrally manages all machine motions including boom lifting, arm retracting, bucket digging, slewing and forward‑reverse traveling.

  Functions

  High‑pressure oil from the main hydraulic pump enters the main control valve body.

  Moving the control handle makes pilot oil drive each internal spool.

  Precise flow distribution of high‑pressure oil to cylinders and motors:

  Boom cylinder – boom lifting/lowering

  Arm cylinder – arm extension/retraction

  Bucket cylinder – bucket open/close

  Swing motor – machine slewing

  Travel motor – forward/reverse movement

  Common Faults & Troubleshooting

  • Slow‑speed or low‑force performance: Insufficient relief‑valve pressure, spool wear‑induced internal leakage, seized negative‑flow/LS valves. Test system pressure, disassemble and check spools, clean valve assemblies.
  • Jittery/uneven operation: Damaged spool surfaces, spring wear, unstable pilot pressure. Polish or replace spools and springs, adjust pilot pressure stability.
  • Hydraulic oil seepage: Aged seals, valve body fissures. Replace seals; weld fractures or replace valve body.
  • Unsynchronized combined movements: Sticky merging valves, failed load check valves. Clean flow‑combining valves and inspect check‑valve sealing performance.

   

  The excavator main control valve serves as the hydraulic system’s flow distribution hub. It accurately delivers high‑pressure oil from the main pump to boom, arm, bucket, swing and travel mechanisms, controlling motion direction, speed and compound‑action coordination.
