The excavator joystick is fundamentally a hydraulic pilot proportional control unit. It does not directly initiate excavator motions but sends control‑signal hydraulic oil to actuate the main multi‑way valve, managing the speed and direction of machine operations. Situated on both sides of the cabin, the control lever (pilot lever, hydraulic handle or joystick) is the core operating part for all excavator functions, equivalent to the machine’s “steering wheel and moving limbs”.
Working Approach
Operate all excavator functions via multidirectional joystick manipulation:
• Main boom lifting
• Secondary stick extending and retracting
• Bucket opening and shutting
• Left‑right cab slewing rotation
• Collaborative control with foot pedal valves for travel movements
Working Theory
Each control handle encloses an internal hydraulic pilot valve:
• Tilting the handle pushes the inner valve spool
• Low‑pressure hydraulic signal is delivered
• Main hydraulic valve is regulated
• Cylinders and motors run with variable speed and direction
Proportional Speed Control
A larger handle push angle increases spool opening → boosts pilot oil pressure → opens the main valve further → accelerates boom, stick, bucket and slewing motions. When the handle is let go, reset springs pull the handle and spool back to mid‑position, cutting pilot oil supply, relieving pressure, resetting the main valve, and stopping all actions instantly.
