Excavator Final Drives PC35-6 Swing Reduction Gearbox Komatsu Crawler Excavator Swing Motor Parts

Known as the swing gearbox in industry jargon, the swing reducer of an excavator is a pivotal transmission element joining the slewing motor with the large slewing gear ring. Its main task is reducing rotational speed and boosting torque output, enabling the upper body to achieve smooth 360‑degree rotation.

Key Structural Composition

Sun Gear: Linked to the slewing motor splines, receiving high‑speed power input supply.
Planet Gears: Each stage contains 3‑4 gears, orbiting and self‑rotating around the sun gear for torque delivery.
Ring Gear: Mounted fixed to the housing and meshes with planet gear assemblies.
Planet Carrier: Delivers output power to drive the lower small driving gear wheel.
Brake: Internally fitted wet multi‑plate brake, spring‑applied locking and hydraulic‑pressure‑driven release, preventing backward rotation.
Housing and Bearings: High‑strength cast or forged steel casing equipped with heavy‑duty load bearings, dust‑resistant and anti‑leakage.
High‑speed low‑torque power output from the hydraulic motor passes through the sun gear, first‑stage and second‑stage planetary gear groups to the output planet carrier. The pinion rotates at low speed with high torque, meshing with the slewing bearing’s inner gear ring to drive upper‑structure slewing movement.

Regular Operational Failures & Root Cause Sources

  • Strange noise / Jittery running status: Gear abrasion and pitting damage, bearing failure malfunction, scarce or dirty lubricating oil, unsuitable gear meshing clearance size.
  • Oil permeation and leakage troubles: Degraded oil seal gaskets, housing structural fissures, overfilled lubricant level height, blocked air‑vent breather outlet.
