As the “heart” component of an excavator, the hydraulic pump supplies the driving force for all machine movements.
Core Function
Rotating with engine power, the hydraulic pump transforms mechanical energy into pressure energy of hydraulic fluid. High‑pressure fluid is sent to hydraulic cylinders and motors to achieve boom lifting, arm telescoping, bucket opening/closing, machine traveling and upper‑body swing. The excavator loses all mobility without a hydraulic pump.
Engine‑powered fast rotation of internal pump parts draws hydraulic oil inward and compresses it. Pressurized oil passes through pipelines to drive boom, arm, bucket, travel and slew motions. Oil flows back to the hydraulic tank after controls are released, finishing the oil cycle.
Power Input: A coupling connects the excavator engine to the hydraulic pump’s main shaft and piston cylinder block for high‑speed rotation.
Oil Suction (Low‑Pressure)
Several pistons inside the cylinder block rotate alongside it. The swash plate causes pistons to move back and forth. Retraction enlarges pump internal volume, creating negative pressure to suck oil from the tank.
Oil Discharge (High‑Pressure)
Piston extension shrinks internal volume, squeezing oil into high‑pressure oil conveyed to the main control valve through the valve plate and outlet port.
Adaptive Flow Control (Key Variable Displacement Function)
Under heavy‑load excavation and lifting tasks, the pump automatically increases displacement and flow to boost power output. It reduces displacement during light‑load or no‑load operation to conserve fuel. Internal servo regulators adjust swash plate angles to modify piston stroke lengths.
