• The main control valve of an excavator, also called main valve or multi‑way valve, serves as the hydraulic system’s master switch and flow‑splitting manifold, centrally controlling boom lifting, arm retraction, bucket digging, slewing and forward/reverse traveling.

  Functions

  High‑pressure hydraulic oil from the main pump is supplied into this valve assembly.

  Control‑handle manipulation makes pilot oil actuate each spool inside the valve housing.

  Accurate distribution of high‑pressure oil to corresponding cylinders and motors:

  Boom cylinder – boom up‑and‑down movement

  Arm cylinder – arm extend‑and‑retract motion

  Bucket cylinder – bucket open‑and‑close action

  Swing motor – machine rotation

  Travel motor – bidirectional chassis traveling

  Common Faults & Troubleshooting

  Slow‑moving or weak machine actions: Inadequate relief‑valve pressure, spool wear and internal leakage, seized negative‑flow/LS valves. Test system pressure, inspect spools by disassembly, clean valve parts.

  • Choppy/jittery operation status: Damaged spool surfaces, spring fatigue, unstable pilot pressure. Grind or replace spools and springs, adjust pilot pressure calibration.
  • Hydraulic oil seepage problems: Deteriorated sealing components, valve body fissures. Replace seals; repair cracks by welding or replace the whole valve body.
  • Uncoordinated multi‑action performance: Jammed merging valves, faulty load check valves. Clean merging valves and verify check‑valve tightness.

  As the hydraulic system’s flow distribution core, the main control valve precisely distributes high‑pressure oil from the main pump to boom, arm, bucket, swing and travel actuators, determining movement direction, speed and compound‑action harmony.
