Known as the swing gearbox in construction machinery fields, an excavator’s swing reducer is a vital transmission module that links the slewing motor to the large slewing gear ring. Its main roles are speed reduction and torque amplification, enabling the upper superstructure to rotate smoothly through 360 degrees without interruption.

Key Structural Components

Sun Gear: Coupled to the slewing motor’s splines to receive high‑speed power input.
Planet Gears: Each stage consists of 3 to 4 gears, orbiting and spinning around the sun gear to transfer torque.
Ring Gear: Rigidly fixed to the reducer housing and meshes with the planetary gear sets.
Planet Carrier: Outputs driving power to actuate the lower small drive gear.
Brake: Internal wet‑type multi‑disc brake, spring‑engaged for locking and hydraulically released, which avoids reverse rotation.
Housing and Bearings: Constructed from high‑strength cast or forged steel, fitted with heavy‑duty bearings for dustproof and leakproof performance.

High‑speed low‑torque power generated by the hydraulic motor is transferred via the sun gear, primary‑stage and secondary‑stage planetary assemblies to the output planet carrier. The pinion rotates at low speed with high torque, meshing with the inner gear ring of the slewing bearing to drive upper‑structure slewing.
