Serving as the fundamental power module of excavator hydraulic circuits, the main hydraulic pump harnesses engine power to convert mechanical motion energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It delivers pressurized hydraulic oil to hydraulic drive motors, facilitating every operational movement of excavator machinery. Axial variable piston pumps serve as the standard power configuration for most civil engineering excavators. Mid-to-large excavator units adopt a compact integrated structure combining dual main pumps and a rear-mounted pilot gear pump. A pair of independent high-pressure oil supply loops supplies hydraulic fluid to the main control valve, supporting multi-action compound operation with a rated working pressure of 28MPa to 35MPa. Positioned at the rear chassis of the machine, the low-pressure pilot pump operates at 3–4MPa with low flow output, supplying pilot pressure fluid for control handle actuation and main valve spool positioning. Piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump shell rotate synchronously with the main spindle, accomplishing continuous oil intake and pressurization workflows. Modulating the swash plate’s tilt angle changes piston stroke length, which directly adjusts the pump’s displacement magnitude. An external servo regulation system governs swash plate movement according to real-time hydraulic signal feedback. Augmenting the swash plate angle increases fluid throughput and machine operating speed, while reducing the angle lowers fuel consumption and averts engine shutdown under load. The valve plate assembly separates low-pressure oil suction channels and high-pressure oil discharge channels to achieve orderly hydraulic fluid distribution. Three core control strategies guarantee the pump’s reliable and stable working state. Constant power regulation automatically reduces pump displacement when operational loads increase, protecting engine components and enhancing overall power utilization efficiency. The LS load-sensing system matches fluid supply flow to actual working requirements and maintains minimal idle displacement to reduce fuel consumption. The HP pressure limiting module cuts off excessive pump displacement at peak pressure, shielding hydraulic pipelines and cylinders from rupture and structural damage. Typical malfunctions include internal oil seepage caused by piston abrasion, valve plate damage or regulator clogging, leading to slow machine operation and inadequate power output. A locked full-displacement regulator triggers engine overload, black smoke exhaust and stalling during heavy-load working scenarios. Excessive internal leakage generates waste heat from pressure loss, resulting in abnormal hydraulic oil temperature elevation. System air entrainment, insufficient hydraulic fluid volume, and defective bearings or pistons create irregular operating sounds. Regular daily maintenance entails scheduled replacement of hydraulic oil and filter elements to prevent wear of precision internal pump structures. Ensuring robust tightness of oil suction pipes prevents air intake and mechanical vibration, while maintaining standard hydraulic fluid levels stabilizes long-term pump performance.
