The swash plate is a core built‑in component of excavator main hydraulic pumps. It maintains static status during cylinder‑block rotation, and piston shoes perform sliding motion on its surface.
Functions
Piston shoes fit against the swash‑plate working face. Driven by cylinder‑block rotation, pistons obtain reciprocating linear motion converted from rotary motion by swash‑plate inclination, thus realizing oil suction and pressure‑charged oil delivery.
Pump displacement is positively correlated with swash‑plate inclination angle. Greater inclination corresponds to longer piston stroke and higher output flow; output flow approaches zero under zero‑inclination condition.
Servo assembly provides driving force for swash‑plate swing to implement flow adjustment. This component acts as the major actuating unit for main‑pump variable‑displacement operation.
Common Damage Modes & Fault Symptoms
‑ Working‑surface scuffing, pitting and thermal ablation: induced by hydraulic oil pollution, inadequate oil supply and oil‑film failure. ‑ Wear and blocking of swash plate support / trunnion: delayed swash‑plate angle regulation and intermittent movement.
Representative equipment faults: excessive main‑pump noise, pressure establishment failure, insufficient operating power, unstable flow and low response speed.
Associated secondary damage: swash‑plate defects may lead to failure of the whole piston‑shoe assembly. Simultaneous inspection of paired components shall be carried out in maintenance work.
