Piston shoes bear against swash‑plate face. Swash‑plate inclination converts cylinder‑block rotary motion into pistons’ reciprocating linear motion for oil suction and pressure delivery.

Pump displacement varies with swash‑plate inclination. Larger inclination produces longer piston stroke and higher flow. Flow is nearly zero at zero inclination angle.

Servo assembly drives swash‑plate swing for flow adjustment. It is the core actuating component for main pump variable‑displacement.

Common Damage Modes & Fault Symptoms

‑ Working‑surface scuffing, pitting and burning: oil contamination, oil shortage, oil‑film damage. ‑ Worn or seized swash plate support / trunnion: insensitive angle adjustment, jerky swash‑plate movement.

Typical faults: loud main‑pump noise, pressure failure, poor machine power, unstable flow, slow response.

Secondary damage: defective swash plate will damage complete piston‑shoe set. Inspect both components as a pair during overhaul.
