The swash plate is a core inner part for excavator main pumps. It does not rotate with the cylinder block. Instead, piston shoes slide along its surface.

Functions

Piston shoes press to the swash‑plate face. As the cylinder block rotates pistons, the tilted swash plate converts rotation into pistons’ reciprocating movement for oil suction and pressure delivery.

Swash‑plate tilt controls pump displacement. Larger tilt equals longer piston stroke and higher flow. Flow drops close to zero at zero tilt angle.

Servo assembly makes the swash plate swing to adjust flow. It is the key actuation part for main pump variable‑displacement.

Common Damage Modes & Fault Symptoms

‑ Working surface scuffing, pitting and burning: oil contamination, insufficient oil supply, oil‑film breakdown. ‑ Worn, jammed swash plate support / trunnion: slow angle adjustment, jerky swash‑plate movement.

Typical machine troubles: noisy main pump, no pressure build‑up, weak actions, unstable flow, slow response.

Secondary damage: damaged swash plate can destroy full piston‑shoe set. Both parts must be checked together during repair.
