The swash plate is an essential internal part fitted for excavator main pumps. It does not rotate together with the cylinder block; piston shoes slide on its surface instead.

Functions

Piston shoes cling to the swash‑plate working face. When the cylinder block turns the pistons, the swash‑plate inclination turns rotary movement into pistons’ back‑and‑forth linear movement to complete oil suction and pressurized oil delivery.

Pump displacement changes with swash‑plate tilt angle. More tilt means longer piston stroke and bigger output flow. Flow approaches zero once the tilt angle returns to zero.

Servo units push the swash plate to swing so as to control flow. This part undertakes the key actuation work for main pump variable‑displacement.

Common Damage Modes & Fault Symptoms

‑ Working‑face scuffing, pitting and burn marks: results from contaminated oil, oil shortage and damaged oil film. ‑ Worn and seized swash plate support / trunnion: insensitive swash‑plate angle adjustment and choppy movement.

Typical machine malfunctions: excessive main‑pump noise, low pressure, sluggish machine actions, fluctuating flow and poor response.
