Acting as the primary power constituent of excavator hydraulic systems, the main hydraulic pump relies on engine propulsion to transform mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic potential energy. By conveying pressurized hydraulic medium to hydraulic motors, it enables all functional operating actions of construction excavators. The majority of engineering-grade excavators are outfitted with axial variable displacement piston pumps. Large and medium excavator models feature an integrated twin main pump system coupled with a rear pilot gear pump module. Two autonomous high-pressure oil supply circuits feed hydraulic fluid to the main control valve, enabling synchronized compound working motions within a 28MPa–35MPa rated working pressure range. The low-pressure pilot pump installed at the machine tail maintains stable operation at 3–4MPa with low flow rates, providing calibrated pilot pressure oil for control lever operation and main valve core adjustment. Piston groups fixed to the cylinder block and pump casing rotate in tandem with the main shaft, executing cyclic oil suction and pressure buildup processes. Adjustments to the swash plate tilt angle modify piston stroke dimensions, which governs the pump’s displacement capacity. An external servo controller adjusts swash plate posture based on dynamic hydraulic feedback data. A steeper swash plate angle elevates fluid flow rate and operational efficiency, whereas a shallower angle minimizes fuel consumption and prevents engine flameout. The valve plate partitions low-pressure inlet ducts and high-pressure outlet ducts to realize systematic hydraulic oil distribution. The pump integrates three pivotal control functions to ensure fail-safe operation under various working conditions. Constant power control logic automatically scales down pump displacement under rising load pressure, protecting the engine assembly and improving comprehensive power utilization. The LS load-sensing mechanism provides on-demand fluid flow corresponding to actual working loads and maintains low idle displacement for effective fuel conservation. The HP pressure limiting function restricts maximum pump displacement at peak pressure values, preventing rupture and structural damage to hydraulic piping and oil cylinders. Recurring equipment faults involve internal leakage stemming from degraded pistons, cracked valve plates or clogged regulating components, resulting in slow operational response and insufficient power delivery. A seized maximum-displacement regulator induces engine overload, exhaust black smoke and operational stalling during heavy-duty construction tasks. Excessive internal oil leakage converts pressure attenuation into heat, causing abnormal temperature spikes in hydraulic fluid. Air intrusion into the hydraulic system, substandard oil levels, and damaged bearing or piston components produce anomalous mechanical noise. Daily equipment upkeep requires periodic renewal of hydraulic oil and filter cartridges to mitigate wear of precision internal pump parts. Operators must verify intact sealing of oil suction pipelines to prevent air ingestion and mechanical vibration, and uphold standard hydraulic fluid levels to preserve stable pump operational performance.
