As the fundamental power module supporting excavator hydraulic operation, the main hydraulic pump harnesses engine torque to convert mechanical kinetic energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It supplies pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motor units, facilitating the full range of working motions for engineering excavators. Axial variable piston pumps serve as the mainstream power configuration for modern construction excavators. Medium and large excavator models feature an integrated dual main pump structure combined with a rear-mounted pilot gear pump unit. Two autonomous high-pressure oil supply loops deliver hydraulic fluid to the main control valve, supporting multi-functional compound operation with a rated working pressure span of 28MPa to 35MPa. Positioned at the machine’s rear chassis, the low-pressure pilot pump operates steadily at 3–4MPa with low flow output, providing stable pilot pressure oil for control lever actuation and main valve core adjustment. Piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump shell rotate synchronously with the main shaft, finishing sequential oil suction and pressure buildup cycles. Tuning the swash plate’s oblique angle modifies piston stroke dimensions, thereby adjusting the pump’s displacement parameter. An external servo regulating unit controls swash plate positional changes in response to hydraulic feedback signals. Increasing the swash plate tilt angle enhances fluid delivery volume and machine operating efficiency, while decreasing it reduces fuel consumption and avoids unexpected engine stalling under load. The valve plate assembly segregates low-pressure oil intake channels and high-pressure discharge channels to achieve uniform hydraulic fluid distribution. Three specialized control strategies ensure the pump’s reliable and stable field operation. Constant power regulation automatically lowers pump displacement under elevated load conditions, safeguarding engine stability and improving comprehensive power utilization efficiency. The LS load-sensing system provides adaptive fluid flow matching actual working demands and maintains low idle displacement to minimize fuel consumption. The HP pressure limiting mechanism limits pump displacement at peak pressure thresholds, protecting hydraulic pipelines and oil cylinders from fatigue rupture and structural damage. Frequent equipment defects include internal leakage caused by piston surface wear, valve plate breakage or regulator blockage, leading to slow operational response speed and inadequate power delivery capacity. A jammed maximum-displacement regulator results in persistent engine overload, black exhaust smoke and operational stalling during heavy-load construction work. Excessive internal oil seepage converts pressure loss into heat energy, causing abnormal temperature elevation of hydraulic fluid. Hydraulic system air entry, insufficient oil volume and faulty bearing or piston components produce unusual mechanical operating noise. Routine daily upkeep requires periodic renewal of hydraulic oil and filter elements to prevent wear of precision internal pump components.
