Hydraulic Main Pump K5V200DTP - 9N8X Axial Piston Pump for EC480D Excavator Pump Parts

Purpose

The hydraulic main pump forms the prime source of hydraulic power on an excavator. Driven by the engine, it converts mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic fluid to feed the boom, dipper arm, bucket, track drive motors and slew motors across the machine.

Unit Variants

Nearly all construction excavators use axial variable piston pumps; medium and large plant machines are fitted with a combined twin main pump unit with a pilot gear pump mounted at the rear casing.
Twin main pump operates at 28–35 bar equivalent MPa with two independent oil supply circuits for combined movements; rear pilot pump works at 3–4MPa low pressure to supply pilot fluid for control levers and main valve spools.

Internal Construction

The cylinder block houses multiple pistons which draw and pressurise oil as the central shaft rotates. Swash plate tilt sets piston stroke and pump displacement. An externally mounted servo regulator shifts swash plate angle via hydraulic pilot pressure to regulate flow output and fuel usage. The valve plate segregates inlet and high-pressure outlet ports for fluid distribution.

Three Core Control Functions

Constant power control reduces pump swept volume under rising load to stop engine stalling; load sensing (LS) delivers only necessary flow and lowers fuel burn at idle; pressure cut-back drops displacement to minimum at peak pressure to stop hose and cylinder rupture.

Common Operating Faults

Worn pistons/valve plate causing internal leakage or seized regulator lead to slow machine performance; fixed maximum displacement creates overloading, black exhaust and engine stall; excessive internal leakage elevates hydraulic fluid temperature; air ingress or poor oil level results in abnormal pump rattling.

Preventative Maintenance

Carry out scheduled hydraulic oil and filter changes, maintain fully sealed suction pipework and retain correct oil level to prevent premature pump damage.
