The swing reducer, referred to as the swing gearbox in construction machinery, is a key transmission part for excavators that bridges the slewing motor and large slewing gear ring. It realizes speed reduction and torque growth to support smooth full‑circle rotation of the upper superstructure.

Main Structural Parts

Sun Gear: Mated with slewing motor splines to receive high‑speed power supply.
Planet Gears: 3–4 gears in each stage orbit the sun gear while self‑rotating for torque transmission.
Ring Gear: Fixed firmly to the housing and meshes with planet gear assemblies.
Planet Carrier: Outputs driving force to operate the lower small drive pinion.
Brake: Integrated wet‑type multi‑disc brake with spring‑lock and hydraulic‑release design against reverse rotation.
Housing and Bearings: Heavy‑duty cast or forged steel casing supported by high‑capacity bearings, dust‑resistant and leak‑proof.

High‑speed low‑torque power from the hydraulic motor is conveyed through the sun gear, first and second planetary stages to the output carrier. The pinion gear runs slowly with high torque, engaging with the slewing bearing inner ring to drive upper‑structure rotation.

Irregular noise and unstable running: Gear surface wear and pitting, bearing breakdown, insufficient dirty lubricant, improper gear meshing gap.
Oil seepage and leakage failures: Worn sealing components, housing structural cracks, overfilled oil volume, blocked breather outlets.
Torpid or power‑deficient slewing: Degraded gears/bearings, incomplete brake release, hydraulic motor bypass flow, non‑matching reduction ratio.
Excessive temperature rise: Shortage of lubricant, poor oil quality, overloaded operation, brake drag resistance, insufficient heat emission.
Gear jumping and tooth damage: Impact pressure loads, impurity infiltration, fatigue wear, shaft misalignment during installation.
