LG225 Swing Gearbox Repair: What to Check Before Ordering Carrier Assemblies with Sun Gears

2026-10-20

When rebuilding an excavator swing gearbox, a planetary carrier assembly supplied with a sun gear defines only part of the purchasing scope. Workshops still need to verify the reduction stage, mating features, and actual contents before ordering.

The LG225-labelled product range includes first-stage carriers, second-stage carriers, and sun gears. Selecting these swing gearbox parts requires checking how each component matches the installed reducer, rather than relying on appearance or an abbreviated model name.

Specify the Required Carrier Stage
First and Second Stages Are Separate Selections

The product page offers “1st” and “2nd” options. These identify different carrier stages and should be quoted with their respective quantities. A price for one selection should not automatically be interpreted as the price of both stages.

If the repair requires components for both stages, list each carrier, its associated sun gear, and any additional items separately.

A Supplied Sun Gear Does Not Mean a Complete Gearbox

“Sun Gear Included” does not establish that the order also includes an internal ring gear, output shaft, seals, all bearings, or a gearbox housing.

Before approving the quotation, confirm the sun gear’s stage, quantity, and part reference. Specify which components are installed in the assembly and which are supplied separately.

Match the Parts to the Installed Equipment

LG225 provides a starting point for an enquiry, but selection should also use the equipment manufacturer, full model, serial number, and available gearbox identification.

Provide photographs of the existing assembly from the front, rear, and side, together with readable part markings. If a listing’s title, image labels, and specification table identify different manufacturers or models, resolve the discrepancy using the machine nameplate and applicable parts catalogue.

Similar model names and external dimensions do not, by themselves, establish interchangeability between swing reduction components.

Turn Structural Matching into Specific Checks
Verify Gears, Splines, and Assembly Dimensions

Using the relevant drawings, check applicable tooth counts, face widths, tooth geometry, spline configuration, diameters, and assembly height. Pin and bearing interfaces should also be checked where required by the repair procedure.

Photographs assist identification but cannot demonstrate correct backlash or dimensional tolerances. Measurements from worn components should not automatically become manufacturing dimensions for new replacements.

Connect Material Claims with Inspection Records

The product specifications describe forged carburizing alloy steel gears and ductile cast iron carrier bodies. These descriptions identify material categories, but do not independently establish load capacity, service life, or operating stability.

Where further assessment is needed, review the material grade, heat-treatment records, and applicable hardness and dimensional results. Video inspection can document appearance and quantities, but does not replace these technical records.

Separate Shipping Data from Installation Dimensions

Packaging dimensions and gross weight support transport planning. They should not be treated as carrier diameter, assembly height, or component net weight.

Packaging information should also be reconfirmed against the selected first-stage, second-stage, or combined supply. On receipt, compare labels, quantities, sun gear configuration, and visible condition with the approved list. Resolve discrepancies before installation.

Build the Order Around the Repair Findings

Whether a first-stage carrier, second-stage carrier, or sun gear needs replacement should follow inspection findings and the applicable service documentation. Purchasing an assembly does not establish that replacement will resolve every swing fault.

For LG225 swing gearbox repairs, a list identifying stages, part references, quantities, and mating requirements gives purchasing and workshop teams a shared basis for quotation, receiving inspection, and assembly preparation.
